Robot Mannequins Imitate Supermodels
At least they’re not taking over the catwalk … yet.
Japan’s well known for their artistically designed robots. This one’s actually quite fashionable as well. Palette is a robot mannequin for stores that can detect a person’s movements, analyze them and strike a suitable pose.
To mimic the movements of a supermodel, the robot employs motion-capture technology. Thus, store owners can be assured that their mannequins will only be striking the most dignified poses to entice potential buyers. What’s more, Palette can recall the poses that generated positive responses, allowing it to improve on its buyer-captivating skills.
In case you’re wondering how come the creators of Palette didn’t opt for a more human-like appearance (this robot doesn’t even have a face), the creators maintain that doing so would defeat the entire purpose of this robot – that is, drawing the buyer’s attention to the product, not to itself.
Designed by Flower Robotics, this interactive mannequin comes in two models: an upper torso (UT Palette) for jewelry displays and a full-torso (Palette) for garments.
