Top Robot Vacuum Cleaners In Action

Earlier this year, our news pages featured the entry of promising new robotic vacuum cleaners and even hinted on a brewing multi-sided Robovac Wars. Today, we bring to you some videos showcasing the top names in the industry.

iRobot Roomba

We start with the current king of the hill. Recording a strong performance last year and even breaching and setting a 5 million milestone earlier this year, iRobot and its Roomba is well-entrenched in the industry it created all by itself. Here are a couple of videos to show you why iRobot CEO Colin Angle is expecting more from this robot this year.  

The video below shows the Roomba navigating through a very narrow and circuitous route. 

Here’s another one. You’ll see at 0:20 how the Roomba will thoroughly clean every nook and cranny of your floor.

Neato XV11

Neato Robotics entered the robotic vacuum cleaner market late last year through its revolutionary-shaped XV11. Unlike the round-shaped Roomba, the XV11 has a rectangular-shaped front. According to the folks at Neato, this shape will enable the XV11 to clean corners better than the leading brand.

In the video below, we show you how the XV11 gets out of tight spots.

The XV11 features a more systematic parallel motion (as opposed to the random-looking movement of the Roomba. Have a look at that feature here. Pay attention to the time display on the video player and look out for the following highlights:

At 3:12, notice how the XV-11 backs off from the stairs after sucking up dirt along the edge. 

At 4:29, it backs off a moving object – a dog.

At 5:53 – Finally, after a day’s work, it starts to dock.

Samsung Hauzen

I’m not quite familiar with the various models of Samsung’s line of robovacs. We do know that it cleans in the same systematic manner as the XV11, and this is shown in the following video. Apparently, the video features Samsung’s Hauzen model.

Guided by two twin cameras, the Hauzen is able to “see” obstacles. In the next video, observe how in 0:10 it balances precariously on a bench. At 0:32, see how it avoids getting tangled with a wire on the floor. Finally, at 0:54, check out how the Samsung robovac docks after work.

Evolution Mint

There’s one more robotic vacuum cleaner that introduced itself to the public earlier this year – the Evolution Mint. However, we have yet to see a Mint in real action in an uncontrolled environment (e.g. in a house scenario). If you know of any on the Web, feel free to point it out to us.
